About the Images
I’ve long wanted to capture and share photos of some of the breathtaking places in Second Life. Often, I’ll explore a beautiful sim, only to find it vanished from the grid the next time I try to visit, leaving me wishing I had taken a few snapshots to preserve the memory.

So… I’ve decided to start a travel diary here to document and remember the extraordinary locales I’ve visited in Second Life. Through this diary, I hope to celebrate and preserve these virtual wonders, even as the landscape of Second Life evolves.

Susurrous
If I had my own sim to decorate, it would look like Susurrous (assuming I had the talent to make my sim look as good!).
Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the word “susurrous,” an adjective, as “full of whispering sounds.” It goes on to say:
Susurrous derives from the Latin noun susurrus, meaning “a hum” or “a whisper,” and may be a distant relative of swarm (think of the collective hum of a beehive). Susurrus is itself an English noun with the meaning “a whispering or rustling sound.” … Both the noun and the adjective (note that the two are spelled differently) are products of the 19th century, but they were preceded by the noun susurration, which in the 15th century originally meant “malicious whispering or rumor.” Today susurrous is used to describe any kind of sound that resembles a whisper: a light breeze through a tree, perhaps, or the murmurs of intrigued theatergoers.
Once you visit Susurrous, you will likely agree that the name is perfect.
According to the Destination Guide, Susurrous is “an enchanting autumn destination where nature’s palette bursts into vibrant shades of amber, crimson, and gold. Meandering rivers glisten under the warm sun, their gentle flow creating a soothing soundtrack for your adventures. A tranquil pond, surrounded by a tapestry of fallen leaves, reflects the brilliant colors of the trees, offering the perfect backdrop for stunning photography.”
Susurrous was created by Talia (natalia.corvale). The sim is her home, and she cautions visitors to “…play nice. Don’t bother other visitors and keep your clothes on. No nudity or revealing outfits of any kind….It’s really as simple as having some class and respect.” Violators of this policy can expect to be booted from the sim!
Note
Susurrous has been intermittently offline for several days, though it is still listed in the Destination Guide and appears on the world map. I have delayed sharing these photos in case the sim is no longer accessible to the public, but I finally decided the sim is too pretty not to share. Plus, as I said above, I wanted to share photos to remember the beautiful SL places.
I do hope Susurrous opens up again so you can visit and take some snapshots of your own.
